Membership
We are a Highlands-based CIC, inspired by the tradition of the Àirigh (shielings) — seasonal upland dwellings where Highland communities once gathered to tend animals, share stories, sing songs, and live close to the land. The Sheiling Collective seeks to revive these traditions and this spirit of connection—to support personal and collective wellbeing, reconnect people with land and place, and regenerate cultural memory and community care.
By becoming a member you help support:
Revival of traditional shieling lifeways
Gaelic language and cultural heritage
Intergenerational knowledge sharing
Ecological stewardship and biodiversity
Seasonal gatherings and community wellbeing
Membership begins at £25 per year and includes invitations to gatherings, updates on our work, and the opportunity to take part in shaping the direction of the Collective
The first 100 members will also become part of Bun-stèidh nan Caraidean — the Founding Circle of Friends, recognised as those who helped establish the Collective in its earliest years.

Some supporters wish to contribute beyond the standard membership tiers.
You are welcome to join our Supporting Circle by contributing any amount above £25. These contributions help sustain the Collective’s long-term work in land stewardship, cultural renewal, Gaelic heritage, and community gatherings.
*We also periodically accept short and long terms residents at the Shieling - if you’re interested in this, please register interest using the button below!
Bun-stèidh nan Caraidean
The Founding Circle of Friends
As The Shieling Collective begins its journey, we invite the first members of the community to become part of Bun-stèidh nan Caraidean — The Founding Circle of Friends.
This circle recognises those who support the Collective in its earliest years and help lay the foundations for the regeneration of land, culture, and community inspired by the tradition of the Àirigh.
The first 100 members of The Shieling Collective will be recognised as Founding Members.
Founding Members will:
Be recognised as part of Bun-stèidh nan Caraidean
Have their names recorded in the Founding Members Register
Receive invitations to gatherings and celebrations
Be acknowledged as those who helped establish the Collective in its formative years
Anyone joining any membership tier can be part of the Founding Circle while places remain.
Meaning of the Name
Bun-stèidh means foundation or beginning, and Caraidean means friends.
Together, Bun-stèidh nan Caraidean reflects the spirit in which the Collective is being built — through friendship, shared stewardship, and care for land and culture.
